Fun facts about nuclear fission
- Nucler fission splits an atomic nucleus into two nuclei
- Nuclear fission does not spontaneously react
- In order to split, the nucleus must be hit by a high speed neutron.
- Nuclear fission is a chain reaction.
- Some electricity is made by power plants controling a nuclear fission chain reaction.
- An uncontrolled nuclear fission chain reaction is how the atomic bomb works.
- The change in mass to energy causes the massive amounts of enrgy.
Step by step on how fission works
- A nucleus is introduced moving at high speeds to the atomic nucleus.
- The nucleus is split into two different but close to equal nuclei.
- Each time a nucleus is split, it realeases a large amount of energy.
- The neutrons will keep bombarding other nuclei, which causes the chain reaction, which release ubelievably lage amounts of energy which gives us some of our electricity.
