There are many different ways on how you can help someone with this. Although, some rules I think are important to follow is be patient, be courteous, and remain calm. First of all, being patient is a big thing. You have to undertsand that they are most likely going to neglect your help at first. They're scared and think they can solve this problem themselves. Just keep trying but don't be passive agressive either. If you have someone that wants to get help then that's great. Second, be courteous of them. Undertsand they are going through bad times and it may not seem normal for them. Don't say, "Oh calm down. You're just having a bad day." I think they would know if they were having a bad day, this is serious. Finally, reach out to them in a kind and calm manner. You don't know what they feel so just keep your temper down and your positive mindset up.
"All of us worry and get scared from time to time. But those with anxiety may feel consumed by fears of things that might seem irrational to others." -Joseph McGuire, Ph.D. You might be able to see some symptoms with other mentall illness's but with anxiety it is much harder to see what the person is dealing with.
Knowing the signs of anxiety can help you realize when someone you love is having fearful thoughts or feelings. Symptons vary from person to person but can be broken into 3 categories.
So to help someone with anxiety you can provide validation and express concern. By doing this you're showing them that you care and want to help them. Also, approach them in a kind and positive matter. It may not help them generally but it shows your reassurance. Oh, don't forget to seek help if that person needs it.
Helping someone with depression can be a challenge. You may feel helpless and wonder what to do. Learn how to offer support and understanding how to help your loved one get the resources to cope with depression.
Well first of all, encourage treatment. People with depression may not recognize or acknowledge that they're depressed. They may not be aware of signs and symptoms of depression, so they may think their feelings are normal. All too often, people feel ashamed about their depression and mistakenly believe they should be able to overcome it with willpower alone. With the right treatment they can get better. Second understand suicide risk. People with depression are at an increased risk of suicide. If your loved one is severely depressed, prepare yourself for the possibility that at some point he,she, or they may feel suicidal. Finally stay alert for warning signs of suicide. Such as, making statements as, "I want to kill myself." Or giving away belongings or getting affairs in order when there's no other logical explanation for why this is being done.
