What are Treatment Options?

There is currently no cure for Parkinson's, but there are many treatment options that make the symptoms easier to bear.

Medication

There are many options in terms of medication that increase or substitute dopamine in the body. These medications help keep the symptoms of Parkinson's in check. Some of these medicines include carbidopa-levodopa and dopamine agonists. However, after some time, the strength of the medicine will diminish or become inconsistent. Because of this, the medications will not solve the problem.

Exercise and Aerobics

Sometimes, lifestyle changes such as embracing exercise and aerobics can help your muscles stay healthy, especially balance and stretching. Like medications, it doesn't comnpletely solve the problem, so it can't be relied on to solve the issue.

Surgical Procedures

If someone's body doesn't respond properly to medication, particularly levodopa, deep brain stimulation may help to control symptoms. Deep brain stimulation is when a doctor puts an electrode into the brain that connects to a generator in your chest near the collarbone, allowing the doctor to control the symptoms that weren't affected by the levodopa. However, this comes with its own risks. Risk of stroke, infection, and brain hemorrhages rise with this procedure. Due to this, it is not ideal and could cause other problems other than just Parkinson's Disease.
