The Woodwind Section: Instruments

The woodwind instrument has a sound hole in the tube body, which produces different pitch by blocking and releasing the specific sound hole or change the length of the tube body.

Most woodwind instruments are made of durable wood.Sound on a woodwind instrument comes from a vibrating column of air inside the instrument. The player makes this column of air vibrate to make the sounds. For example, though saxophone made of brass, is considered a woodwind because it requires a reed to produce sound.

Saxophone Reeds

Reed instruments produce sound by focusing air into a mouthpiece which then causes a reed, or reeds, to vibrate.
