Here are some grammatical features that inflect verbs. Please know that there are much more options and that these are the most used/common. Please also know that grammatical features used for nouns can also be used on verbs, and vice versa.
Grammatical Tense
Past Tense: Shows that an event has occurred. Example: In "He has gone to the zoo.", "has gone" shows that he had went to the zoo before.
Present Tense: Shows that an event is happening right now. Example:In the sentence "They are going to the mall.","are going" shows that they are currently going to the mall.
Future Tense: Shows that an event will happen. For example, in "She will go to college", "will" shows that it hasn't happened yet, but will in the future.
Grammatical Aspect
Perfect Aspect: Shows that an action has been completed.For example, in the sentences "I have seen that", it shows that the object has already been seen.Not to be confused with the perfective aspect.
Perfective Aspect: Describes the verb as a whole, instead of in parts. For example, in Malay,"saya suda makan" means "I have already eaten", while "saya baru makan" means "I have just eaten". Not to be confused with the perfect tense.
Progressive Aspect: Describes an on-going action.For example,"I am walking" shows that the person is walking and has probably been walking in the past and the future.
Grammatical Voice
Active Voice: Shows that the subject is doing an action to the object.For example, in "The man ate the apple", it shows that the apple has been eaten by the man.
Passive Voice: Shows that the object is being acted on by the subject. An example of this is "The apple is eaten by the man", which shows that the man has eaten the apple, not the other way around.
